Myofacial Trigger Point

Trigger points are described as sensitive spots in the fascia surrounding muscle. The trigger point model states that unexplained pain frequently radiates from these points of local tenderness to broader areas, sometimes distant from the trigger point itself. This technique can identify reliable referred pain, which associate pain in one location with trigger points elsewhere. Pressure is applied to the point. The client breathes into the tender spot until the mild pain subsides, thereby releasing the tension.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).Using deep muscle compression and friction along the grain of the muscle, the purpose of Deep Tissue Massage is to unstick the fibers of the muscles and release both toxins and deeply held tension points.

Accupressure

Manual pressure is used to stimulate specific points on the body along what are considered to be lines of energy. It is based on the concept of life energy which flows through “meridians” in the body. In treatment, physical pressure is applied to acupuncture points with the aim of clearing blockages in these meridians. Pressure may be applied by hand, by elbow, or with various devices. Acupoints work by stimulating the meridian system to bring about relief by rebalancing yin, yang and qi (also spelled “chi”).

Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu means “finger pressure” in Japanese. “Shi-” refers to finger, and “-atsu” means pressure. Shiatsu techniques include massages with fingers, thumbs, feet and palms. This is done without the use of instruments. The practitioner leans his or her body weight into various points along key channels, stretching and holding other different body parts. The application of pressure to the human skin is said to correct internal malfunctions, promote and maintain health, and treat specific diseases.
